Learning Nepali with children and families
Choose a familiar word, practise it together and stop while the learner still wants to return. Start from what they can do, rather than their age alone.
Start with your home
Try घर (ghar, home), आमा (aamaa, mother) and पानी (paani, water). Hear each word, say it together and connect it to something familiar. Use words that fit your family and accept help from a fluent speaker with regional or family variants.
A week of small activities
- Meet five words. Read the Nepali, pronunciation and meaning together.
- Recall. Try a flashcard before revealing the answer.
- Write. Watch and trace one letter. Notice one improvement.
- Discover. Choose a free culture topic and discuss something new.
- Speak. Repeat a familiar word; recording is optional.
- Read. Try a story preview and talk about what happened.
- Return. Repeat a favourite activity and notice what feels easier.
Five to ten minutes is a suggested starting point, not a requirement. Repeat a day, shorten it or take a break.
Learning about Nepal

Privacy and adult support
An adult should manage the account and help choose suitable activities. Use imaginary names and places in free writing. Avoid including a child’s school, address or other identifying details in exercises or feedback. Read the family privacy explanation before saving work or recordings.
